How to Make a Torrent

Torrents are an effective way to download movies, music, and software. They are also a great way to share files with others. Unlike a traditional download from a web server, which only connects to the server itself, a peer-to-peer protocol like BitTorrent has your computer helping other computers to send data across the Internet. This makes the file download much faster and usually eliminates the need for a centralized server.

The first step is to find a good tracker for your file or files. It is best to choose one with a good seed/peer ratio. This means that there are a lot of seeds (compared to peers) and the higher the number, the better the file will download.

Once you have found a good tracker, upload the files to it. Make sure to zip the files together for better results, and make them all in the same directory.

Create a Torrent with qBitTorrent

To use this free application, open qBitTorrent, which resembles a "qb" on a blue background. Click or double-click the qBitTorrent app icon, which will bring up a drop-down menu that you can use to select the Torrent Creator option.

In the qBitTorrent Torrent Creator window, select the file or folder you want to share in your new torrent. Drag and drop the file or folder into the Torrent Creator text box or choose it from a list, and then optionally tick any of the other boxes that you see fit.
